I assume you will be the person working with the new JVC 9800 camcorders
and the APAS system. If not, please forward this to whomever will be
configuring the systems.
Your shipment includes 4 JVC camcorders and 2 DV capture cards. The card
manufactured by SIIG is the original DV card and includes the ULEAD DV
capture software. You can find directions for installation and capture on
our web site. The direct address is:

After you receive the camera and install the ULEAD DV capture software on
your computer, you will need to download a patch file directly from the
Ulead web site (www.ulead.com). The direct address for the download is:

The file you need is about 3 MB in size and is required for the JVC9800
camera.
The new "upgraded" video card is the Studio DV from Pinnacle. Simply
follow the instructions listed in chapter 2 of the Pinnacle manual for
installation. There are no patches required for this card.
You will also require the latest version of the APAS software. This can be
downloaded directly from the Ariel internet site (/). Please
check with Gideon before downloading to make cerain you get all the
required files.

The firewire cable is included with the DV frame grabber so you should have
two of them. At this time, the frame grabbers only support one camera at a
time. They cannot support captruing video from multiple cameras without
dropping frames. Therefore, you only require 1 cable with each frame grabber.

As stated above, 1 black DV cable is included with the SIIG frame grabber
and one grey DV cable is included with the Pinnacle frame grabber.

Ariel Dynamics is curently using the JVC digital camcorders. These cameras
have many advantages since they are battery operated and also support high
speed video analysis. These cameras do have an S-Video (analog) output
that can be used with your current configuration only for 60 Hz analysis.
However, it is recommended to use the associated digital video hardware.
This includes the Digital Video (DV) capture card, DV cameras and Ariel
Software drivers.
The Digital Video capture card & software sells for $450
The JVC camera and software drivers for 60 & 120 Hz analysis sells for
$3,500 per camera.
The JVC camera and software drivers for 60/120 & 240 Hz analysis sells for
$5,000 per camera.
The Ariel software drivers are required to extract the high speed data from
the recorded images and is included in the prices listed above.

Gideon asked me to help with your questions regarding
JVC DVL9600 or DVL9800 camcorders in high speed mode.
I think your analysis of the pixel dimensions
for these camera models is basically correct. Assuming NTSC, one starts with a
frame which is 720x480. Separating the two fields which are 1/60 sec apart results in a
whole field size of 720x240. Then if one considers 120Hz with horizontal panels the
optimal size would be 720x120, or vertical panels 360x240. At 240 hz the optimal panel
size would be 360x120.
As a practical matter, JVC does not split the
panels optimally. In practice the real panel sizes approximately are:
The two cameras in question are great cameras.
They offer much higher that standard image rates of a very affordable price. This makes
them a very attractive choice for biomechanical analysis. However there clearly is a
tradeoff involved, higher image rate for lower resolution. One can get both the higher
image rate without loss of resolution but only at a high price.

Thank you for your message. The feature you are referring to can
be found
in the TRIMMER module. I assume that you are using the Ulead
software to
capture the video. The next step would be to open the captured
AVI files in
the TRIMMER module. Then select OPTIONS, VIDEO to open the Video
Options
menu. You will see an option in the upper right corner of the
menu to
Separate Fields. This option can be turned On/Off. Once
you have made the
necessary changes, then select FILE, SAVE TRIMMING. This will
allow the
Digitizing module to read the file as you specified.
If you do not have this option in the TRIM module, you can upgrade
your
software by following the Upgrade Instructions posted on the internet.
The

As long as you follow the posted intructions, you will not affect the
APAS
